These wall coatings are designed to offer outstanding performance and durability. Their exceptionally long life design helps extend routine maintenance cycles, ensuring they continue to perform for decades to come, maintenance free.

One of the most important factors when applying any type of masonry or wall coating is Masonry Wall Coating preparation, preparation, preparation! It doesn’t matter how good the coating is, if the substrate is poorly prepared, it will simply not perform! Many times we have been called to rework competitor jobs that have simply cut corners, often through lack of proper wall preparation to save costs... this is unacceptable! These wall coatings failures occur for several reasons, one example, missing primer or worse still simply not washing the wall of dirt or loose debris. Its common sense that exterior wall coatings will not perform as required if applied over dusty, loose, damp or even mouldy substrate. It is of the utmost importance to allocate time and concentrate on wall preparation prior to application, not following this rule, as we see day in day out, will almost certainly end in failure and need further work in the near future.

On average around 5% of our masonry coatings work is rework of competitor’s jobs. These jobs tend to be very cheap quotes, sometimes even below the cost of the materials alone, to do the job properly! This obviously means corners are being cut, the materials used are not correct and the preparation is not being done, in the long run this costs far more to put right.

We analyse several factors before selecting the correct coating to apply. Free Survey Our Initial survey, importantly determines the type of substrate that the coating will be applied to. We determine what the coating needs to achieve (aesthetic appearance, weather protection, problem solving such as damp etc or all of the above!). Results from these initial findings, will determine our line of further investigation, questions such as: Is there movement in the substrate? Is the substrate in a repairable condition? Is there presence of algae, lichen, organic matter or damp? After taking all factors into consideration we specify the most suitable coating to match the criteria.

As with all our work, we provide a full guarantee with our masonry coatings applications, providing you with peace of mind, that the job will be done correctly first time. We offer a full written guarantee for all our masonry coatings Due to the performance of the products we use, our wall coatings' life expectancy is around 30 years and completely maintenance free!

In this section, we will take you through the different types of wall and masonry coatings available, showing the suitability of each type of product and the properties and attributes of each:

Textured Coatings

Textured Coatings are suitable on all types of substrate which are sound, free of Free Survey high levels of movement and not permanently wet. These textured coatings are made with a resin or enamel base and have been on the market for over 40 years. Throughout this time, these textured coatings have evolved considerably, following millions of pounds in research, to produce the high performace coatings we use today. As we only source the best high performance textured coatings on the market, we confidently offer a 15 year guarantee, although the life expectancy of the masonry coatings we use exceed many decades!

There are several advantages of using these textured coatings, for example: They will allow the wall to breathe, they will not chip, peel or flake and due to their flexible design, will allow wall movement. Textured coatings can also help to hide scars, wall repairs and alterations giving a wall a uniform appearance and vastly improving the aesthetic appearance of the building. These exterior wall coatings are available in a wide range of colours and textures. For more examples of these masonry coatings, see our masonry coatings gallery which shows how a house or building can be transformed using textured coatings.

Acrylic Textured Coatings

Acrylic textured coatings also known as silicone textured coatings can actually be classified as a render finish. These are anti-crack masonry coatings, commonly used on newer buildings but perform well on any structure that is sound and soild. These textured coatings are available in many colours and range from 1mm to 3mm grain size. They are designed to give maximum strength to the coating and extremely high bond strength to the substrate. Acrylic textured coatings contain micro-fibres which form an incredibly strong and durable finish once cured. Different finishes can be achieved by different application methods, from a relatively smooth finish using a 1mm steel float application to a tyrolean rough cast finish using a 3mm sprayed application. Our textured coatings, as with all our masonry coatings applications are the best products on the market. Therefore we confidently provide written guarantees offering you absolute peace of mind that your walls will remain maintenance free. In addition we can even offer insurance backed guarantees and manufacturer backed guarantee, details available on request.

Smooth Masonry Coatings

Smooth masonry coatings are by definition an alternative decorative wall coating to textured coatings, providing a smooth finish for any solid and sound substrate. Smooth masonry coatings are more suited to walls without the need to hide defects and scars in walls.

Elastromeric Acrylic Coatings

Elastomeric coatings are extremely flexable paint systems, most suited for problematic substrates. They will allow moisture to escape from the substrate, bridge wall cracks and withstand impacts upto 5mm in depth without splitting the paint surface, performing extremely well where ordinary masonry paints would fail. Elastomeric coatings will allow high levels of thermal and structural movement. For very difficult substrates such as heavily cracked walls, a GRP fibre glass membrane or localised strapping can be used for reinforcement. This is a particular advantage for buldings and structures in need of wall renovation and prone to wall cracks and defects. We are accredited installers of the Liquid Plastics Limited (LPL) wall coating system, LPL are acknowledged as one of the very best products suppliers in the market place.

Pliolite

Pliolite* is a solvent based masonry coating for external walls. Developed by Goodyear, this product provides excellent adhesion to previously painted or untreated porous surfaces and becomes showerproof within 20 minutes of application, therfore can be applied all year round. Pliolite is suitable for walls without any major defects, wall cracks or high level of movement and are availbe in a wide range of colours.
*Pliolite(R) is a registered trademark of Eliokem.

Traditional Mineral Paints

These paints are usually used on traditional substrates ie, lime renders, lime based plaster, porous natural stone, limestone and bricks. These are natural products and eco-friendly. These paints will not hide defects nor bridge cracks, but are intended to restore the natural protection of the substrate which may have been broken down due to atmospheric conditions and pollution.

Clear Masonry Coatings

Clear masonry coatings can be applied to porous brick and stone walls. They are clear colourless solutions which when dry, do not change the original aesthetic appearance of the wall. The primary use for clear masonry coatings is to act as a waterproof protective barrier for the prevention of penetrating damp. Although these clear masonry coatings prevent water droplets from penetrating the brick or stone substrate, their molecular structure allows water vapour to pass out of the wall, maintaining breathability. There are additional benefits to clear masonry applications, such low dirt absorption and low staining. Just as your windows pick up dirt, your external walls do too, but with an application of clear masonry coatings, the external bricks are protected from absorbing this dirt, helping to keep the masonry looking vibrant.
